Men of the Edo state police command recently arrested a 73-yrar-old man, Williams Omobude Uwadia, for stabbing a 27-year-old man to death with a kitchen knife.

The suspect was said to have had a disagreement with the victim, Gabriel Amayahu Aigbosuria, who he later reported to the police.

According to reports, after making his complaint at a police division in Benin City, policemen followed the suspect with a view to effecting the arrest of the victim when Uwadia, the complainant, brought out a kitchen knife and stabbed Aigbosuria to death.

Uwadia was swiftly arrested and later transferred to the state CID, Benin for further investigation.

While speaking on the incident, the Assistant Public Relations Officer of the state Command, ASP Ahwara Ejiroro expressed shock over the incident. He, however, assured that the police will get to the root of the matter.

Meanwhile, with the increasing spate of violent crimes in Edo, the state House of Assembly has sent a message to the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, to appoint a substantive Commissioner of Police in the state with a view to help curb crime in the state.

The Majority Leader of the House, Philip Shuaibu said the state needs a substantive CP to fight crime in a decisive manner.

According to Shuaibu: “We are not happy that each day people are kidnapped or robbed in different parts of the country.

“There have been incessant robbery operations along the by-pass and it seems the police is helpless about it. We are appealing to the IG of Police to assist us because we need an effective policing of the entire state to be able to check crime effectively.”
