Jim Iyke Reportedly NOT The Father Of Nadia Buari’s Twins
Following the announcement of Ghanaian actress’ Nadia Buari’s twin babies, the question on everyone’s lips has been “who is the baby’s father?”
Details of the new dad are still sketchy but actor Jim Iyke who has been romantically linked to the actress is not the father of the twins.

Vanessa Gyan, who hosts the Late Nite Celebrity Show on e.TV, hours ago confirmed that Jim Iyke is not the father of Nadia’s twins as Nadia is currently engaged to the father of her twins.

According to her, Nadia gave birth in the presence of her mother and brother in an hospital in Atlanta, with her fiancé showing up later.

She revealed on The Late Nite Celebrity Show that Nadia and Jim Iyke broke up about 11 months ago briefly after he proposed.

She further disclosed that Nadia and the ‘baby daddy’ attended University together.

Another friend who spoke Ghanacelebrities.com said “Jim is not the father of those twins. Who wants to have a baby with this unstable douche bag—not the Nadia Buari I know.”

Rumours of Nadia Buari being pregnant have been hovering for some months but they all settled yesterday when her adopted father – Alhaji Sidiku Buari confirmed that the actress has given birth to twins outside Ghana.

Though the father failed to mention which country she gave birth in,  the twins were born in United States shortly after the his announcement.

For now, Jim Iyke has been ruled out as the father—but we still wonder who the mystery man is.

“That’s a big responsibility and something that requires a lot of work, energy and love,” our source continues. “She wishes him all the best in this new and very important chapter in his life.”

“Rihanna’s been through it all with Chris. This is the type of situation that some women would lose their minds over and end up doing something very foolish,” our source adds.

Noble Igwe (1)

As the annual #YNaijaPowerList enters its 4th year, we bring you the most influential young Nigerians under 40 who are navigating the increasingly complex world of social media to get things done.

From popular bloggers to interactive marketing strategists, style gurus to plain mischief makers, these guys speak and we listen.

Bankole Bada

The name Bankole Bada may not immediately ring a bell but Twittersphere and BlackBerry users can certainly identify with his fast rising gadgets and accessories e-commerce startup, Huntella. What is more interesting however, is Bada’s social media marketing strategy via the Twitter handle @huntellaDotNet which aggressively pursues followers and keeps them engaged via funny gifs, random musing and motivational tips. @huntellaDotNet has stumbled occasionally in customer service relations but none can deny the stunning effectiveness of this strategy.

Cheta Nwanze

For Cheta Nwanze, a journalist who cut his teeth with the defunct NEXT Newspaper, online is where everything is at. In the past year he has worked with YNaija.com as editor but it is his Twitter handle, @chxta with its 22,000 strong followers that has propelled him to this list once again. When he tweets, especially on political matters, people listen. His #HistoryClasses are a Twitter event and his week daily newsletters serve as the perfect pick me up for a whole lot of readers. Umoh’s NND has aggregated tweets for various new media platforms like YNaija, Daily Post Nigeria, TheScoop and with every single tweet or retweet, Umoh is definitely smiling to the bank.

Elnathan John

When Elnathan John tweets, the internet takes notice. The gifted writer and satirist has been in fine form for a while now, irreverently taking on any topic that catches his fancy. He could spend the morning lamenting his broken down relationship with Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, his afternoons mock-sympathising with the United States over a recent Measles outbreak, and the evenings engaging in political twitter with the best of them. He still finds time to publish his musings and short stories on his blog, Dark Corner.

IPMAN asks members to start importation of petrol

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) on Tuesday directed its members to commence importation of refined petroleum products as the Federal Government had pledged to pay outstanding subsidy.

The National President of IPMAN, Chinedu Okoronkwo, disclosed the directive on telephone to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

Okoronkwo said the directive followed assurances from government and to alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians from the on-going national scarcity of petrol.

“We have had series of meeting with government agencies that are saddled with the payment of subsidy claims and we have been assured of prompt payment. IPMAN members have been instructed to commence importation of petrol into the country to avert the lingering fuel scarcity. The Ministers of Petroleum and Finance have assured us of prompt payment of the marketer’s money; we urge Nigerians not to engage in panic buying of petrol as adequate petrol will be in circulation soon,” he said.

He however, warned its members to desist from hoarding petroleum products, adding that the association’s surveillance teams would monitor compliance nationwide stating that the association would penalize marketers indulging in hoarding of petroleum products and other sharp practices.

Okoronkwo said that joint taskforce by IPMAN and the NNPC had been set up to monitor petrol retailing as part of efforts to stabilize supply. “We will not hesitate to sanction any errant marketer caught hoarding the product. A joint taskforce by the NNPC and IPMAN had been set up to monitor filling stations and sanction them accordingly. With the quantity of petrol pumped into the country and distributed to stations by the NNPC, the corporation has indicated serious commitment to ensure effective product supply. I want to confirm to Nigerians and marketers that with the level of petrol injected into the country by the NNPC, there is no cause for panic buying and hoarding of petrol,” he added.

Okoronkwo also insisted that refined petrol supplied to each depot was enough to address the nation’s current petrol supply challenges in the zone. “Once again, we have been assured by the NNPC that petrol supply will be sustained in the depots. I enjoin marketers to join hands with the NNPC to wet the market with product and shun hoarding,” he said.

He lauded the programmes of the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company, a subsidiary of NNPC, saying that without them the sanity in the downstream oil sector would not have been possible.

He advised the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) to give import licences to serious marketers who were willing to import petrol.

She was arrested following an alarm raised by the women leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of the Kabala ward in Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The women leader of the ward Hajiya Hajara Mairiga told the police that the suspect, whose name could not be ascertained as at press time, came to her house Monday and told her that she has her PVC and some other people’s own for sale. ‘APC is suffering from paranoia': Lagos PDP defends Obanikoro’s nomination

Musiliu-Obanikoro-650x400

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State on Tuesday came hard on the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State over reports that the State PDP leaders were against President Goodluck Jonathan’s nomination of Senator Musiliu Obanikoro as minister.

Lagos PDP, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Gani Taofik, urged the public to ignore the rumour, declaring that the party leadership is solidly behind Obanikoro noting that the rumour was intended to cause acrimony and confusion within its fold, the party insisted that Obanikoro was highly qualified for the ministerial post.

“They are thus peddling the rumour to cause acrimony among our leaders but unfortunately for the APC, all our leaders have come together, better united and have said no to leadership acrimony in Lagos State. The sponsors of the divisive rumours are the leaders of APC, especially in Lagos State. They will always shiver at the mention of Obanikoro. Indeed, a willing Obanikoro is politically skilful to torment the assumed political influence of APC in the state. We enjoy how, in recent times, the APC has become very paranoid of our soaring feat in Lagos State. They now discuss our concerns more than theirs! This is laughable. How does one explain the interest of the APC in the decision of the PDP to support one of its best to serve the country?

“This rumour is obviously the extension of the recent impotent threat by APC senators to oppose the screening of Senator Obanikoro. This is a politically influential, successful business and family man,” the statement said.

Opinion: Dear Gov. Akpabio, supporting your stooge is not by force

$

by Inibehe Effiong

Gov-Godswill-AkpabioThe truth is that no industrialisation has taken place. Akpabio has however consolidated his insatiable proclivity for wasteful spending, extravagance and suppression of dissenting voices.

As politicians and political parties in the country continue in their to campaign to lure the electorates preparatory to the rescheduled elections, Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State and his stooge Udom Emmanuel have taken their insatiable plot to get power to a ridiculous and provocative level. Governor Akpabio has continued to dissipate public funds in promoting his ungodly third term agenda using Udom as a veil even as he manipulates critical state institutions and apparatus for egregious and partisan objectives.

Recently, I watched Akpabio’s stooge, Mr. Udom on television talking arrogantly in a very desperate attempt to deceive credulous and unsuspecting voters in the state. While speaking in a campaign rally, Mr. Udom declared that he will carry – out a census of all youths in the Akwa Ibom State within his first three months in office in order to determine those that should be sponsored abroad for education and those that should be empowered to start businesses and so on.

In case Udom Emmanuel and his supporters do not know, census is item 8 in the Exclusive Legislative List under Part 1 of the Second Schedule to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). The undeniable import of this is that only the federal government is vested with constitutional vires (power) to determine population.

Therefore, no state government can conduct census. In any case, we are all conversant with the chronic and alarming level of unemployment in Nigeria. As such, any candidate that says he will conduct census in order to determine the rate of unemployment in a state if elected is being deceitful and insincere. In any case, the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics is there for any administration that requires official information on demographic related matters and statistics for planning.

In the said speech, Udom also admonished youths in the state not to “play opposition” saying that opposition is not good. What other evidence do we need of Udom’s autocratic inclination? What is democracy without a strong opposition? That statement smacks of sheer arrogance and intolerance by a man that was forced on the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ) in Akwa Ibom State as her gubernatorial candidate. It clearly shows that Udom, if given the chance will be more brutal and monstrous than his imperial benefactor.

Not done with his nauseating campaign shenanigans, Udom Emmanuel a supposed banker and economist of repute, went on air in a radio interview and declared that the price of garri will be reduced by 50% if he assumes office as the governor of Akwa Ibom State. I have said it repeatedly, “a product cannot sell beyond the limits of its marketer ( s ). Illegitimacy cannot give birth to legitimacy”.

Udom Emmanuel, an illegitimate child of Governor Akpabio’s brigandage, despotism, corruption and politics of exclusion should stop teaching our people nonsense. Akwa Ibom State as at today is not known for large scale agricultural exploits. The state largely depends on neighbouring states and importation of food supplies to meet her food needs. Is Udom Emmanuel going to subsidise the price of garri if at all he’s elected? How will this banker reduce the price of garri by 50%?.

During his 2011 electioneering campaigns, governor Godswill Akpabio had audaciously declared that he was going to build one industry in each of the 31 Local Government Areas of the state if elected for a second term. Though the gubernatorial election in the state was marred by rigging, violence and fraud, in the end, the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC ) declared him elected.

With less than three months to the expiration of his tenure, Akpabio has not laid the foundation for even one industry in the state. Ironically, governor Akpabio in 2013 presented a N459. 9 billion budgetary estimate to the rubber stamp Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly which he christened “budget of industrialisation and consolidation”. The truth is that no industrialisation has taken place. Akpabio has however consolidated his insatiable proclivity for wasteful spending, extravagance and suppression of dissenting voices.

On Friday February 27, 2015, all markets in the state capital were forcefully shut down on the orders of governor Akpabio because Udom Emmanuel wanted to sell his manifesto to market women in the state ostensibly as a counter to an earlier visit to major markets in the state by the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress ( APC ) in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Umana Okon Umana. Angered by the popular reception said to had greeted the APC campaign in the markets, Akpabio ordered the closure of markets for his stooge.

As if our people are fools, the media apologists of Akpabio went to town with the insulting lie that it was the market women who willingly closed the markets in solidarity with the PDP. Is it possible for everyone in a market to support one candidate? However, my discussion with the leadership of the market women in the state revealed that the closure of the market was not of their volition.

The truth is that the market women were not consulted nor was their consent sought. This crass provocative lawlessness and impunity is happening in a state without a viable economy; a state without employment opportunities and industries despite receiving the highest allocations from the federation account.

How can Udom, a man who prides himself as a clean intellectual consent to such cruel obstruction of peoples’ only source of livelihood in an effort to make him a governor? With what we  have seen, is Udom Emmanuel not another imperial Godswill Akpabio? A candidate who seeks to ride to power on the tears and blood of the down trodden is a disaster that shouldn’t be allowed to happen.

The whole country was recently incandescent with rage over the dubious donation of a whooping N100 million to Udom Emmanuel by some ragtag “student leaders ” in Akwa Ibom State as their contribution to his campaign. Only a candidate with a criminal mind whose goal is to steal and loot will accept ONE HUNDRED MILLION NAIRA from some unemployed lazy minds? How does Udom Emmanuel Intend to repay them if he emerges the governor? That donation cannot be charitable, it was made with an expectation.

Governor Godswill Akpabio is using state funds to secure bogus endorsement for his stooge from the labour union leadership in the state, traditional rulers, religious leaders, transporters and all sorts of money seeking groups in the state. Few days ago, it was widely reported in the media that some so-called youth leaders in the state were summoned to the government house where the governor reportedly shared N155 million to the youths who are said by some reports to be cultists.

With the way Akpabio is going, Nigerians may wakeup to the news that Mr. Akpabio has summoned mad people roaming the state, Boko Haram, witches and wizards, rapists, armed robbers, kidnappers, prostitutes and like persons to the Akwa Ibom State Government House for them to endorse his stooge.

Democratic dividends should not be reduced to construction of some roads at highly inflated rates. Let us not wittingly or unwittingly reduce democracy to pettiness and mediocrity. It is an abuse of language to credit a governor and a gubernatorial candidate who can shut down markets in a gestapo and primitive show of power to score cheap political goals with the appellation ‘democrat’.

There should be no compulsion in political choices. The freedom to choose who should govern us is the hallmark of democracy. It was former American President, Abraham Lincoln who posited that ” no man is good enough to govern another without his consent “. Nigerians should deprecate this crude, illegal and tyrannical plot to foist a candidate on Akwa Ibom people. If this is allowed to go unchallenged, then there is a justifiable reason to be sceptical about the forthcoming elections.

The time to act is now!

Christian woman wears hijab to “see what it’s like being an outsider”

Jessey Eagan, a married Christian mother of two, decided to wear a hijab for Lent in an attempt to remind herself “what it feels like to be an outsider”.

According to her, “We lived in Amman, Jordan about 7 years ago where we ended up teaching at an Islamic school,” she told BuzzFeed News. “While we were there we met many Muslims and built great personal friendships with them. And living in a culture where I stuck out like a sore thumb, I personally know what it can feel like to be an outsider, and I wanted to remind myself of that, so that I can better love all people, no matter what they look like.”

In her blog, the children’s director at her church in Peoria, Illinois, wrote about a Muslim friend’s response to her idea to wear a hijab, and how it spurred her on: “Before I fully explain my reasoning, let me tell you how I came to the decision. I told my husband my idea and he encouraged me to do it, but I decided that I needed to ask a local Muslim friend her thoughts on it. She wears hijab for many reasons, I’m sure, but one is identification with her Muslim community. I wanted to make sure that I would not be disrespecting or offending the Muslim community, so I asked her opinion. Her response was this;

“You are a very thoughtful person full of great ideas…I don’t see a reason why people get offended by a very thoughtful, nice, and peaceful act. Our role is teach and educate all people and I’m 100% in support of this idea…My hijab drawer is yours come and pick what you like. If u don’t have time I can bring them to u, just let me know what colors.”

She says that her main goal for this project is to encourage other people, especially Christians, to look beyond appearances and remember Christianity’s teachings about love.

“Jesus said to love our neighbors, strangers, and enemies. I think this is something that is not often taken seriously by many Christians,” she told BuzzFeed News. “We are so influenced by the media, that we allow fear to take over, and forget to love. Fear is the opposite of love.”

One thing Eagan says she hopes to do next is use make-up to “darken” her complexion and “go out into the community.”

“My friend told me that white Muslims and brown Muslims have different experiences, as do black Muslims, within the Islamic community as well as in the community at large,” she said. “This is all about helping my people, specifically white Christians, learn how to see difference, embrace it, and engage with it. That’s what hospitality does. It welcomes people who were once outsiders into a community with love and the desire to understand.”

When asked what lesson she felt would be learned, that could not have been gleaned from a Muslim woman who wears a hijab, Eagan said she felt it was more important to experience it “first hand.”

“I wanted to see what my friends’ public lives are like, how they experience my community differently from me,” she said.

“It is likely, I think, that my friends would tell me many positive things and avoid speaking negatively, either about their experience or why they wear the hijab,” Eagan added. “I also wouldn’t get to understand my own prejudices towards people, which has come out at least twice.”

Eagan said she expected people “wearing cammo or driving big trucks” to threaten her, but that she’s been “proven wrong each time.”

No need for panic, Pres. Jonathan says the Chibok girls are still alive

jonathan_goodluck51

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday said that over 200 female pupils kidnapped by Boko Haram from their hostel at the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State, are still alive.

Jonathan revealed this in an interview with the African Independent Television (AIT) during a current affairs programme, Kaakaki.

The schoolgirls have spent more than 300 days in captivity since they were abducted in April 14 last year during their West African Examination Council final papers.

His statement that the girls are still being kept by Boko Haram contradicts Abubakar Shekau’s statement in a video released in October 2014 to the media that he had married off the pupils. In a previous statement, the Boko Haram leader had threatened to sell the girls as slave brides.

Jonathan argued that if the schoolgirls had been killed, the Boko Haram would have released a video showing how they the girls were murdered.

The Nigerian security forces are also wary of storming the main stronghold of the terrorists because they fear the insurgents may use the girls as shields. “Because they may use them as shields so we are working with the global best practices. We can’t just move in with artillery and clear the place. The good story is that they’ve not been killed. They are still alive because when terrorists kill they display,” he said.

Jonathan contradicted his assertion during his Monday interview with the cable TV news channel, Al Jazeera that the Federal Government did not mishandle the Boko Haram insurgency, claiming that the insecurity problem did not start during his tenure. “At the beginning, we did not really estimate the capacity of Boko Haram. But over the years they continued to build their capacity with links with other terrorist groups. I believe we’ve got up to 65 per cent of what is needed to prosecute this war,” he explained.

He added that the military force was winning the war against the insurgents, noting that only Madagali still remains under the control of the terrorist group in Adamawa State.

“People will want to go back when they no longer hear stories of Boko Haram invasion. We launched the Victims’ Support Fund to aid in rehabilitating them. The Victims’ Support Fund is not managed directly by government but by the private sector,” Jonathan stated.

Jonathan further explained that there was no provision for interim government in the country’s Constitution. “There’s no provision for interim government in our constitution. The only interim government is military government. Talking about interim government to me is treasonable. There are some Nigerians that are bent on creating crisis in this country. There was no reason to doubt the May 29 handover,” He said.

Although Jonathan expressed confidence that he was going to win the March 28 election under the platform of the PDP, he admitted that his chances were slimmer than they were in 2011. “Globally, a sitting president wins with fewer votes than during his first attempt. PDP still has better chances of winning a national election. PDP is still the dominant party; there’s no polling unit where you don’t have PDP members. If you remove the PDP elements in the opposition, it would just collapse like a pack of cards. PDP still has an edge over every other party; I am not worried about the outcome of the presidential election,” he said.

The 2014/2015 season of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), will kick off this weekend as scheduled.

This was rubber-stamped during the Club Owners/League Managers meeting in Abuja on Thursday.

There were uncertainties over when the league will resume, after some club officials insisted on a date after the general elections.

“What I can only tell you is that the league season will start on Saturday with the star match being the clash between Heartland and Kano Pillars. Other details of the meeting you get to hear about it later after I have met with other members for ratification,” Acting Secretary of the Club Owners, All Chukwuemeka told Goal.

Kano Pillars, who have won the Nigerian Premier League for three consecutive seasons, kick off the new campaign with a star match against Heartland at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri on Saturday.

PDP is against Card Readers because they plan to rig elections – APC

The All Progressives Congress says it has been vindicated on its accusation that the Peoples Democratic Party is opposed to the use of Card Readers during the forthcoming elections.

According to the opposition party, the ruling party’s aversion to the card readers is borne out of a desire to prevent the election from holding or to rig it.

In a statement released in Lagos on Thursday, March 5, by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, the party said it was curious that the PDP “rushed to the press” to deny the APC’s claims, only to “quickly turned around to confirm them.”

The party said: “At the press conference we addressed on Wednesday, which rattled the PDP and the President Goodluck Jonathan Administration so much, we listed the conditionalities of the PDP/Jonathan Administration for holding the election: ‘No PVC, No Card Reader, No Jega’ and the fact that the party wants the military deployed to harass and intimidate voters.”

“We mentioned ‘Card Readers’ at least three times during the press conference, and said they (PDP/Jonathan Administration) are doing everything possible to sabotage the machine and prevent its use.”

“Both the spokesmen for the PDP and the Jonathan Campaign Organisation rushed to the press to deny any such ‘reprehensible’ plan. But a few hours later, the spokesman for the campaign organisation told an incredulous country that they would oppose the use of Card Reader, apparently after the spokesmen were overruled by their party.”

The APC statement added: “Obviously, these men are outsiders in their own party and it is now obvious that the opposition knows more about the inner workings of their party than they do. In an apparently-choreographed show, some 15 portfolio political parties called a press conference to also announce that they will oppose the use of the Card Reader, vowing to boycott the elections and use a legal process to prevent the use of the machine.”

Buhari confused

Lagos State coordinator of the Buhari-Osinbajo Presidential Campaign Organisation, James Abiodun Faleke on Wednesday said All Progressives Congress (APC) has done vigorous political campaign to swing the polls in 26 states of the federation in the forthcoming presidential election scheduled for March 28.

Speaking at a press conference to herald one million man march in Lagos tagged ‘Marching for Change’, Faleke, a member of the House of Representatives said the party is not in any way jittery over constant campaign visits of President Goodluck Jonathan to the South West region.

“We are not worried about President Jonathan’s visit to Lagos, let him continue to share his dollars, as far as we are concern in South West, it is Buhari at all states. Buhari will win in 26 states across the country,” he said.

Faleke added that Nigerians are ready to vote for change. “The present administration has done nothing; they could not deliver on constant power; and we can’t allow them to continue ruling the country like this, its certain that Nigerians will vote out PDP at the poll,” he added.

He said that APC national leader, Bola Tinubu, Buhari’s running mate Yemi Osinbajo, Lagos State governor, Babatunde Fashola would lead the million man march for Buhari slated for Saturday March 7 explaining that the walk will commence from Maryland through Ikorodu road to end at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere adding that the walk is to showcase that residents were ready for the general elections. “It will also give psychological reawakening to the electorates. It is also to say that Nigerians reject the return to the dark age of Temporary Voter Cards (TVCs); there is no going back on PVCs as it is the practice in civilized countries,” Faleke said.

He assured that the walk would be guided and would not disrupt commercial and business activities stating that all relevant agencies and security operatives have been adequately mobilized to ensure hitch-free political walk.
